The Swan Coach House Gallery is thrilled to celebrate the 20th year of its Little Things exhibition, curated by Marianne Lambert. Featuring over 100 artists, this exhibition offers scores of artwork in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking and three- dimensional art. Over the years, this popular show has provided an exciting opportunity to purchase original works from emerging and established Atlanta-based artists. The work on display is diverse and affordable, perfect for early and experienced collectors alike. Juror's Statement
Culling just 70 images from well over a thousand is not an easy task. I am excited about this collection of work but sad to leave behind so many worthy submissions. I thank all the photographers who submitted to Childhood and remind those not chosen how subjective and difficult the selection process is.
Every photograph in this exhibition makes the viewer stop to look closer. Perhaps it is effective use of color or composition or the subject’s arresting gaze or a poignant gesture. No distracting elements or colors distract from the subject. Objects common in photographs of children, swings, animals, toys, speak to previous work while staying consistent to the photographer’s vision and language. All the work I selected for awards went beyond the single image, making it difficult to decide which image to include in the exhibition and giving me a glimpse of the photographer’s overall vision. Juror’s Award winner Jessica Tampas’s images are about the intensity of the gaze. The composition, the shallow depth of field and the lack of color draw our attention to the eyes, confronting us and making us wonder.

The Sublime Landscape
Opening Night: 6-8PM • Sept 27th
Exhibition Dates: Sept 27th - Oct 21st, 2019
Juror | Laura Valenti
The sublime landscape is defined as having the quality of such greatness, magnitude or intensity, whether physical, metaphysical, moral, aesthetic or spiritual, that our ability to perceive or comprehend it is temporarily overwhelmed. According to an aesthetic philosophy, the sublime landscapes can include any of five visual components: 1) great ideas, 2) passion, 3) the appropriate use of figures, 4) the right aesthetic diction, and 5) a skillful composition. Praxis Gallery presents photographic artwork that explores a broad, interpretive, and personal investigation of the sublime landscape.
Praxis Gallery and Photographic Arts Center is a community-based arts organization that aims to support the development of emerging and established photographers. Praxis Gallery provides solo and group show exhibition opportunities to local and international media artists. Praxis Photographic Arts Center offers a range of learning opportunities for beginning, intermediate and professional photographers through workshops and seminars. With an emphasis on creative expression and innovation, Praxis promotes photographic exhibitions and learning opportunities that inform, challenge and engage the individual artist, with an imperative on promoting the work of our artists to local and international audiences.
Extending Tradition 2 at LightBox Photographic Gallery →
Extending Tradition 2 – August 10 – September 10, 2019
Please join us on Saturday, August 10th from 5-8pm for the artists’ opening reception.
Thirty-six photographers show work in this exhibit celebrating the traditional approach and beauty of large format film photography.
In Extending Tradition 2 we celebrate the work of photographers shooting with large format film or plates, generally 4 × 5 inches and larger, giving recognition to those whose interest and talent follow the masterful path of traditional large format film photography. This is the second time LightBox features the work of photographers using the traditional tools and methods from the early days of photography. These photographers find reward in the practice and their work method is disciplined and results in distinctively unique photographs. The Exhibit includes many styles of imagery and prints in many processes from Pigment Ink to all analog processes, such as Silver Gelatin and other varied Alternative Processes.
Congratulations to the Photographers of Extending Tradition 2
